Trump Says No Military Action Against Iran Before Midterm Elections, US Withdraws Some Personnel from Saudi Arabia
US President Donald Trump stated that there will be no military action against Iran before the midterm elections. The US is withdrawing some non-emergency personnel from Saudi Arabia and reducing troop levels at bases in the Middle East, while also increasing the deployment of aircraft carriers and amphibious forces. The US State Department has ordered the evacuation of non-emergency government employees and their families from Saudi Arabia due to attacks on Saudi civilian targets by Iran-backed Houthi forces. Recently, the US military has quietly reduced its troop presence in Jordan, Qatar, and Kuwait. According to the Wall Street Journal, the US is dispatching another aircraft carrier to the Middle East, with a third carrier strike group coming from the Pacific, and amphibious assault ships carrying Marines are also being deployed. If the new forces arrive and existing vessels are not rotated out, the total number of US naval vessels in the region is expected to exceed 24, with about 20 currently present. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu continues to advocate for a return to large-scale strikes against Iran. Israeli Channel 12 reported, citing US sources, that earlier this week dozens of Israeli fighter jets and refueling aircraft flew over Syria and Iraq, approaching the Iranian border before turning back, stating it was part of exercises and deterrence. Meanwhile, countries like Pakistan and Qatar are intensifying mediation efforts, but the US demands discussions on the nuclear program, while Iran wants to first discuss reopening the Strait of Hormuz, with negotiations still making no breakthroughs.
