Garlinghouse expects XRP to become a payment standard within five years

Ripple expects to offer more financial services via blockchain in the coming years, but not all payments will be settled with XRP. Garlinghouse states that the company chooses the most suitable payment method per customer and application. He predicts that XRP will play a significant role in institutional payments within five years. Ripple will also use its stablecoin RLUSD and traditional currencies when that is more appropriate. Currently, the majority of transaction volume still runs through existing financial infrastructure. During Ripple Swell 2026 on October 29, Garlinghouse mentioned an annual product revenue increase from $300 million to $900 million, although these figures have not been independently verified. He referred to a transaction volume of approximately $16 trillion, of which he hopes that 1 to 3 percent will run through blockchain networks next year. Garlinghouse emphasizes that Ripple does not equate the use of blockchain with the use of XRP. The company opts for XRP when it makes sense, but also for traditional currencies or RLUSD when that is better for customers. This means that the growth of Ripple's payment traffic does not necessarily reflect the demand for XRP.
