U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai spoke with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng, expressing concerns over recent actions by China and emphasizing that China must fully and immediately fulfill the commitments made a year ago in Busan, South Korea. Yellen pointed out that continued progress depends on concrete outcomes, and the U.S. will closely assess China's compliance. A statement from Tai's office noted that China must take specific actions to meet its commitments, particularly regarding agricultural purchases, rare earths, and other critical minerals. Additionally, the U.S. tariff exemptions on certain Chinese products will expire on November 10, and the U.S. has not yet indicated whether it will extend them.
