Vitalik: Ethereum Supports Signature Algorithms through EIP-8288
Vitalik Buterin stated that Ethereum can support various cryptographic algorithms through EIP-8288, allowing users to generate any signature locally, which can then be proven via STARK and put on-chain without occupying calldata, thus eliminating the need for new precompiles. He mentioned that if lattice cryptography is proven to be secure against AI attacks, it could still be used in scenarios such as accounts and wallets through precompiles in the future. Eli Ben-Sasson, co-founder of Starknet, disagreed with this viewpoint, arguing that lattice cryptography is vulnerable to AI attacks and that a simplified version based on the module SIS has only emerged since 2012, lacking maturity. He suggested waiting another 3-5 years for AI to fully test it before using it for custody of large assets.
