Thinking Machines Lab is raising $5 billion at a pre-money valuation of $40 billion. The company, founded by former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati, completed a $2 billion seed round last year at a valuation exceeding $10 billion, but subsequent attempts to raise funds at a $50 billion valuation fell through due to failed negotiations. On the same day, Thinking Machines Lab released its second-generation model, Inkling 2 Small, which utilizes a MoE architecture with a parameter size of 594B-A17B, having undergone four stages of pre-training and nine days of joint reinforcement training. This model surpasses previous models in analytical intelligence, showing improvements in intelligent coding, vision, knowledge work, and reasoning, and will open its weights under the Apache 2.0 license next week.
