The Qubic network is back in operation after the hacking of users
- Validators moved assets to a protected fund during the system shutdown.
- The restitution requires creating new secure wallets and processing claims.
The decentralized computing network Qubic resumed its operations on October 20, 2026, after completing a recovery and unlocking process for its services. The reactivation comes after a coordinated protective halt due to a cyberattack that affected its users.
From the project, they reported: <<The Computor quorum approved the recovery, the recovery platform is open, and the first funds have already been returned to verified owners>>. From the official X account, it was added: <<The quorum approved it, and the network has resumed its normal operation>>.
The incident occurred between 23:42 UTC on October 17 and 01:26 UTC on October 18, when an attacker emptied 1,404 wallets from the Qubic network in less than two hours. The action extracted about 2.94 trillion QUBIC tokens, as reported by CriptoNoticias.
To contain the impact, the Computors ---participants of the Qubic network who decide on it collectively according to their rules--- halted transactions. <<While the network was halted, the affected funds were transferred to a protected trust instead of remaining exposed>>, they explained, adding that <
According to the Qubic report, 87% of the drained funds never left the network and remained frozen with no possibility of movement. The remaining 12.9% was sent to the MEXC exchange, whose team froze the receiving account in about an hour. The notified exchanges suspended deposits and withdrawals of QUBIC.
The Qubic team attributes the theft to the fact that the seed phrases were generated with insufficient entropy, meaning with low randomness. A seed is the secret series of words or numbers that gives access to the funds of a wallet. Its security depends on entropy, and with low randomness, it becomes easier to guess.
The entropy failure is similar to that which occurred in Coldcard wallets. According to Qubic, the vulnerable keys correspond to those created on iPhone or iPad before October 18, 2026; on Mac with Safari before that date; and in the Qubic app for iOS before July 2025. The team clarified that the failure was not in their protocol.
After reopening, the network recommended users treat any web wallet created before version 4.26.4 as insecure (released on October 19), even if they did not lose funds. The instruction requires updating to version 4.26.4 or later to generate a new secure seed.
In this regard, the platform urged users: <<Move your funds to the new wallet as soon as you can, and never use the old one again>>.
For the victims of the attack, the project enabled the official website weak-seed-reclaim.qubic.org as the only way to verify the address and file claims. The platform warned that it will not send direct messages or request private seeds, asking to ignore any unofficial links.
The team pointed out that <<The claims window is open until May 1, 2027, so you don’t need to rush>>, also specifying that <
