Ripple Prime Launches 24/7 RWA Perpetual Swaps for Institutions
Ripple Prime has introduced support for real-world-asset (RWA) perpetual swaps, allowing eligible institutional clients to trade over 100 traditional markets, including equities, ETFs, commodities, and currencies. Announced on October 15, the contracts reference perpetual futures listed by Trade.xyz on Hyperliquid, with Ripple Prime acting as principal to institutional customers. Firms like Virtu are already trading the product. Clients can cross-margin exposures with other supported assets and use Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin as collateral where available. Unlike owning underlying assets, perpetual swaps provide derivative exposure, carrying funding, margin, counterparty, and liquidation risks. The introduction of around-the-clock access does not imply continuous price discovery in the underlying traditional markets. This move expands Ripple's role beyond payments and custody into cross-asset brokerage, indicating a potential pathway for institutions to adopt crypto-native derivatives referencing familiar assets before traditional securities infrastructure transitions onchain. Availability is subject to jurisdiction and licensing arrangements.
