Justin Sun Sells 80-90% of His ETH: Bitcoin Warning
TRON founder Justin Sun announced that he sold 80-90% of his Ethereum assets in the range of $3,600 to $4,000 and has shifted his focus to U.S. stocks. Sun also highlighted serious security risks for Bitcoin arising from artificial intelligence and quantum computers.
- Justin Sun stated that he sold 80-90% of his Ethereum position by the end of 2025 and directed a significant portion of the capital obtained towards U.S. stocks.
- Sun, who mentioned that he did not sell his Bitcoin assets, argued that the risks posed by artificial intelligence and quantum technologies are not being adequately considered by the market.
As one of the leading figures in the cryptocurrency sector, Justin Sun, the founder of TRON, shared his significant portfolio changes and concerns about the future of Bitcoin.
In an interview with William Joy published on October 16, Sun revealed that he had previously sold 80-90% of his Ethereum (ETH) assets in the range of $3,600 to $4,000. He indicated that he redirected the capital obtained from these sales into U.S. stock markets, expressing a more pessimistic view on Bitcoin (BTC) compared to the past.
What Did He See in Ethereum to Sell?
Sun explained that the technical signals he observed in the price chart were behind his decision to significantly reduce his Ethereum position.
He noted that Ethereum approached the peak region twice during its upward trend, but he believed the second rise was not strong enough. This formation, which can be interpreted as a bearish signal in technical analysis, is known as a double top formation.
According to Sun, the second rise's support from ETF demand and large investor purchases raised doubts about the sustainability of the price movement.
For this reason, Sun stated that he sold 80-90% of his ETH assets, leaving a smaller core position, and mentioned that he had not repurchased the amount he sold as of the interview date.
These transactions did not occur recently. Sun's statements pertain to the sales he made by the end of 2025.
Sun did not disclose how many ETH he sold or the total dollar amount of the transactions.
Exiting Ethereum, Focusing on Nvidia and U.S. Stocks
Another important detail in Sun's statements was the market he directed his capital towards after selling cryptocurrencies.
The TRON founder mentioned that he made significant investments in U.S. stocks after reducing his Ethereum position.
Notably, he indicated that Nvidia, one of the leading companies in the artificial intelligence sector, holds a significant place in his portfolio, and he also announced investments in the Nasdaq 100 index.
However, he expressed that he sees some risks in the short and medium-term outlook for Nasdaq. Sun believes that the concentration of capital in certain areas within AI companies and the high-interest environment could pose risks.
Warning About Bitcoin: The Market Underestimates the Danger
In addition to the Ethereum sales, Sun's comments about Bitcoin also drew attention.
Sun stated that he has a more pessimistic outlook on Bitcoin's future compared to the past, attributing this primarily to advancements in artificial intelligence algorithms and quantum computer technology.
According to Sun, sufficiently advanced quantum computers could threaten some encryption methods that secure Bitcoin wallets in the future.
More importantly, Sun suggested that the progress of artificial intelligence in mathematics could lead to the development of new techniques capable of breaking some existing encryption methods even before powerful quantum computers emerge.
Sun argued that many institutional investors who invest through Bitcoin ETFs do not fully understand these technological risks and that the potential dangers have not yet been fully reflected in prices.
Could 2 Million Bitcoin Re-enter the Market?
Sun believes that a potential encryption breach could affect not only active wallets but also Bitcoin addresses that have not moved for years.
He pointed out the Bitcoin believed to belong to Satoshi Nakamoto and the old wallets with lost private keys, suggesting that if access to these assets were to be achieved in the future, a potential selling pressure exceeding 2 million BTC could arise.
However, this scenario is entirely based on technological developments that may occur in the future. So far, there has been no verified example of the fundamental digital signature system of Bitcoin being broken using artificial intelligence or quantum computers.
The quantum threat remains on the long-term agenda of the sector. The U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) published the first three cryptography standards developed against future quantum attacks in 2024.
As previously reported by Coinkolik, the Ethereum Foundation also announced a target of 2029 against quantum attacks.
Pessimistic About Bitcoin but Did Not Sell
One of the most striking points in Sun's statements is that despite his negative expectations about Bitcoin, he has maintained his BTC assets.
Sun stated that he views Bitcoin as one of his core investments and has not reduced his BTC position over the past year.
He explained that he moved his Bitcoins to previously unused cold wallet addresses as a precaution against potential security risks, indicating that he would evaluate future investment decisions based on technological developments.
Sun also mentioned that security algorithms resistant to quantum attacks are being tested within the TRON and HTX ecosystems.
Thus, two different attitudes emerged in Sun's investment approach: while significantly reducing his position in Ethereum and shifting towards U.S. stocks, he continues to hold onto his Bitcoin assets despite concerns about long-term security risks.
