Etherscan launches beta tool to detect address poisoning scams
Etherscan has launched a beta feature to detect address poisoning scams. The tool compares wallet addresses displayed on the same page and issues a warning when it identifies similar-looking addresses. Address poisoning is a scam where attackers send small or zero-value transactions from fake addresses that resemble a victim’s real counterparty, leaving records in the transaction history. Victims may confuse the fake address with the real one and inadvertently copy it for transfers. The absence of a warning does not ensure an address is safe, and users are advised to verify the entire recipient address before sending funds, rather than relying on just the first and last few characters.
