Crypto Tax Proposal Reduced to 0.1%, Investors Can Save 52.38%
The crypto tax in Indonesia currently refers to the Minister of Finance Regulation Number 50 of 2025, which will take effect on August 1, 2025. Income from the sale of crypto assets through domestic digital financial asset traders is subject to a final income tax (PPh) of 0.21 percent. Transactions through foreign providers are subject to a final income tax rate of 1 percent. If the proposed rate of 0.1 percent is approved, the potential reduction in the final income tax burden could reach 52.38 percent. For example, the sale of crypto assets worth Rp10 million currently incurs a tax of Rp21,000, which would decrease to Rp10,000 under the new rate, saving Rp11,000. For a transaction of Rp100 million, the tax could drop from Rp210,000 to Rp100,000, saving Rp110,000. The sale of crypto assets worth Rp1 billion, with the current final income tax of Rp2.1 million, would reduce to Rp1 million, saving Rp1.1 million. This calculation is a simulation based on the proposed rate and does not take trading costs into account. The final income tax is calculated based on the transaction value, not the net profit, so the tax obligation remains even if the asset is sold at a loss. Previously, the crypto tax increased to 0.21 percent when the government updated the tax regulations in July 2025.
