Blockchain Association and Others Request Court to Expedite Hearing on Illinois Digital Asset Tax Law Lawsuit
The Blockchain Association, along with the Crypto Innovation Committee, the Illinois state government, the Digital Chamber of Commerce, and the Illinois Blockchain Association, submitted a joint motion to the Sangamon County Circuit Court, requesting to expedite the hearing of two lawsuits against the state's Digital Asset Tax Law. The state government has agreed to issue an injunction to suspend the effectiveness and enforcement of the Digital Asset Tax Law until July 1, 2027. The parties proposed a timeline for expediting the summary judgment process: the first round of motions is scheduled to be submitted by November 4, 2026, and all relevant documents will be completed by January 22, 2027. The parties request the court to hold a hearing between February 8 and February 19, 2027, and to make a ruling by March 1, 2027, which the state government does not oppose. This timeline is subject to court approval.
