ai16z Co-founder Calls for Pump.fun to Open Source Contract Bytecode
ai16z co-founder Shaw stated that the bytecode of smart contracts can be accessed through Solana RPC nodes, allowing anyone to access it without signing any terms. He did not obtain the source code from the project team, and the generated code is entirely original, reverse-engineered for the public good rather than for profit. He will respond to allegations related to Pump.fun in the future and remove any content that may violate terms. Shaw believes that putting funds into closed-source contracts is extremely risky, having led to approximately $40 million in user funds being stolen over the past year. He emphasized that he complies with the law but insists that smart contracts should be publicly viewable, with the ideal outcome being that Pump.fun proactively open-sources its contracts to enhance security. Previously, Pump.fun's parent company, Bracket Company Inc., sent a cease-and-desist letter to Shaw through a law firm on October 29.
